Paul has been a trustee of CUF since 2005 and took on the role of Executive chair from 2013 - 2018. He was before that Archdeacon of Loughborough and a Canon Residentiary of Leicester cathedral. He has extensive practical experience of social justice issues from a faith perspective having worked previously as Social Responsibility Adviser to the Bishop of St Albans and as Vicar of Thornbury in Bradford. During his time in Thornbury he established the Thornbury Centre, a Church-based multicultural community centre and social enterprise, and the Peaceworks initiative, working to bring people of different faiths together to develop mutual understanding. As an Independent Member of West Yorkshire Police Authority and a Non Executive of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland PCT he has extensive experience of community relations and engagement, financial management, and human resource management as well as strategic skills.
Tony has been working and volunteering in the charity sector for the past 30 years, most recently in an operational Director role for the Papworth Trust, a disability charity working in the East of England. Prior to this he was the deputy CEO of Volunteering England. Tony has carried out a number of senior management roles since the early 2000’s. Tony is vice chair of Hertfordshire Hearing advisory service a small charity supporting people with hearing loss in the East. He is also a crew member and trustee of his local independent life boat in Felixstowe on the east coast, which is where he lives. He has broad experience of social care delivery in the community and has set up and managed numerous community based projects and services.
Esther is the Company Secretary for CUF, Near Neighbours and the Just Finance Foundation and oversees the support operation across the charities. A practising Catholic, she relishes working in a faith-based organisation. Married with children and grandchildren she likes to travel. She has a BA (Hons) in Education and Community Development.
