Sadly the issue of visible and invisible homelessness is rising across the Black Country.

To help bring together those involved in this work and those who would like to make a difference in this complex area, we co-hosted the Housing Justice Black Country Roadshow. Housing Justice is the national voice of Christian action to prevent homelessness and bad housing.

At the conference, we recognised that there is much excellent work is already taking place across the region, and raised major issues of wider political significance.

We also identified areas of activities which we can progress together.

We had a number of speakers from local charities and from local authorities, as well as a commitment from the West Midlands Mayor Andy Street to tackle homelessness.

Our Joint Responses:

As a Grassroots organisation, we follow the opinions, energy and expertise of our communities. They told us they want to:

1) Help people connect to what is already there and identify gaps

To do this, we are using our web mapping tool to show the Places of Support in each community - www.placesofsupport.org/blackcountry

2) People told us they wanted to pray for those affected by homelessness across the Black Country

As a starter, we are setting up a simple prayer email to let people and organisations share their prayer points for homelessness.

3) People in Walsall told us they wanted to get together with others doing similar work to support those who are homeless in the borough.

After some initial meeting, we are working with Homeless Link to create a 'Community of Practice' in Walsall.

We are also looking to develop some of the other suggestions over time. To get involved, email [email protected]
