Many people in our community are living with dementia, and we believe that churches can be a great place of support

Our team of Dementia Friendly Church Enablers work across the Lichfield Diocese area:

Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin: Sarah Thorpe - [email protected]

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent: Mike Bridgewater - [email protected]

Black Country: Su Parker - [email protected]

They work to create dementia friendly churches at the heart of dementia friendly communities.

They are able to:

  • Deliver “Dementia-friendly churches” courses over 4 sessions, covering: Pastoral Care, Church services, Church buildings and Community networks
  • Deliver Sunday services in individual churches to raise awareness for the whole congregation, using the national “Dementia Friends” initiative
  • Offering advice and support

Lichfield Diocese is the first in the country to be recognised as a dementia-friendly community by the Alzheimer’s Society.

A dementia-friendly community is classed as a place where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported and confident they can contribute to community life. Read more here.
