For many families the school holidays are a struggle with the children at home 24/7 and no free school meals, so the weekly budget has to stretch further for food and there is little left for activities and treats.

With 21% of children living in poverty in Nottinghamshire, we believe that churches could do more to provide valuable support for families in the holidays

What support Transforming Notts Together can offer:

Would your church like to explore setting something up?

  • Info on child poverty in your area
  • A short talk to your church or PCC on child poverty and the benefits of offering meals or a holiday club
  • Connection with ‘off the shelf’ holiday clubs already set up and running in other places (eg Make Lunch)
  • Support to access free food locally
  • A visit to a church already running meals or a club
  • Support with recruiting and training volunteers
  • Support with considering the practical aspects of using your building for meals and children
  • We can be there for your first open session to help as needed (date dependent)

Is your church already giving meals out in the holidays?

  • Support to access free food if not already accessing
  • Connection with other church-run clubs
  • Connection with off the shelf ‘packages’ that offer ongoing support (eg Make Lunch)
  • Support and training on recruiting and managing volunteers.

What we ask from you:

We don’t charge anything to give our support to churches, but we do need some stats and the occasional story from you to help us apply for funding. We can discuss these with you and help you set up a way to monitor your own numbers if needed.
