Transforming Notts Together Who we are What we do Blog Contact Us Blog Project Spotlight Together Friendship Groups This year the Wainman Trust has launched two new friendship groups for the over 60’s We meet at Eagles Nest Community Centre, Arnold on Mondays and the Hope Centre , Clifton on Wednesdays. Our heart is to provide people who might otherwise be alone, with a great day of fun, friendship, food and opportunities to do new things. We have a group of faithful, friendly, hard-working volunteers who come to help facilitate the day. Our day begins as people arrive and settle down to chat with friends and volunteers over a cuppa and biscuits. Morning activities are many and varied from quizzes, members sharing their stories, visiting speakers, or competitions such as our recent cupcake decorating one, judged by our very own “Mary Berry.” We also sometimes have the opportunity to participate in armchair exercise before lunch and enjoy working up an appetite. The highlight of our day is a two course lunch, prepared by our lovely cook, Claire. Then we enjoy a game together or some entertainment. We have also had trips out on a River Boat Cruise, a Magical Mystery trip to Derbyshire, a Christmas shopping trip and going to the pantomime in December. People start to wend their way home by 3pm, tired but happy. As one of our members put it, “I can never remember the name of this club, but I call it the Happy Club.” Do you know anyone who is “home alone” and would like to join us? We would be delighted to welcome any new members along at any time.
