See how Christians tackle poverty: Strood
Poverty of aspiration is just one of many faces of poverty in England.
Living in a community where there are few skilled jobs on offer doesn't create much incentive to stay on in school or gain extra skills. When major employers then leave the area, the problem of low skills and poor attainment is worsened by unemployment.
This situation creates poverty and hopelessness, as people become trapped in a cycle of low expectation, low self esteem, and little chance to make a change.
Christian projects such as Strood Communty Project are able to make a difference because they work with the whole community to tackle the underlying problems that hold people back. By offering basic skills training and assistance in finding work, they transform the community by transforming individual lives.
Watch as Paul Robinson, the Project's manager, explains how they make a difference.
