Week Two

Verse for the week ‘The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.' (Isaiah 61:1)

Prayer for the week

Almighty God, whose son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness and sacrificed his life for us. We come to you.

We come to you as the God who knows all our weaknesses, understands our needs and sees our strengths.

Give us grace to reach out to the needs of others, to those who find themselves in wilderness situations in our towns, cities and villages today.

Show us how we can give support and assistance to those in need. Teach us how we can reach out in friendship to those who stand alone.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Project of the Week
First Stop Darlington gives practical support for homeless and vulnerable people. They provide emergency meals, shower and toilet facilities, clothing, counselling, advocacy, internet and telephone access and referrals to other agencies, to address practical housing and employment issues.

Fact:
Homeless young people are one of the most disadvantaged groups in the labour market. Their problems include low skills, lack of job readiness and inadequate information on suitable employment. (www.jrf.org.uk)
