How to Apply

How to apply for a Mustard Seed grant

Applying for a Mustard Seed Grant is simple. Church Urban Fund wants to hear from churches and faith-based groups (linked with any faith) that want to turn their ideas into action.

Please visit http://www.cuf.org.uk/funding-criteria for full details on the types of projects we fund.

Standard application procedure – overview
  1. Review whether your project fits in with our criteria.
  2. If yes, contact your local Link Officer. Discuss your proposal, and if appropriate you will be offered an application form
  3. Complete your application form and return this (with a budget outline and your latest accounts) to you Link Officer
  4. Your application will be reviewed locally before being forwarded to Church Urban Fund offices for final assessment

Standard application procedure – in detail

  1. Before you apply, please ensure that you fit our criteria, as detailed in pages 4-5 of this document. If you have questions about the process or the criteria, please contact CUF directly on 020 7898 1647, or by emailing funding@cuf.org.uk , clearly stating the postcode of your project, and that of the area you work in, if different.
  2. If your project meets the criteria for a Mustard Seed grant, please contact your local Link Officer (details found on http://www.cuf.org.uk/about/contact/regional-contacts). If appropriate, they will provide you with an application form. If you would prefer, you can submit the information in an alternative format (e.g. a letter). If you choose to apply without making use of the standard form, please ensure that all questions asked in the form are fully answered.
  3. Once complete, all applications must be submitted to the respective Link Officer in the first instance (NOT to Church Urban Fund Head Office). There is a Link Officer based in every Anglican Diocese in England. They can help provide guidance on the application for projects within the area. Projects do not have to be Anglican but there needs to be a strong link between the project and a faith group and the project needs to be endorsed by the Anglican Diocese (this is normally done by the Link Officer).
  4. Church Urban Fund will undertake the assessment of applications, and may request further information from those setting up the project – this may be face to face, by telephone, by letter or email. The aim in these conversations is to assist in effectively describing the project and to help ensure that the issues involved in the project have been thought through. Church Urban Fund will endeavour to assess your application and communicate a decision within one month (31 days) of receiving the proposal to our central offices. Ensuring you have included all relevant details and documents will avoid extra delays.
