Give the gift of a brighter future.
You can help to transform someone’s life by leaving a gift to Church Urban Fund in your Will – no matter how large or small, your legacy could make a huge difference.
Leaving a legacy is one of the most tax efficient ways to give. In the UK, charitable bequests are exempt from Inheritance Tax, and by leaving a portion of your estate to charity you can reduce the tax liability on the remainder of your estate.
If you already have a Will, your solicitor can advise you on how to add a legacy to Church Urban Fund. If you don’t have a Will, now is a good time to consider arranging one to protect your family and help the organisations you support.
Why should I make a Will?
A Will is your way of saying how you want your property and finances to be distributed in the event of your death – it’s legally binding, and gives clear instructions about who you want to inherit your assets. If you don’t have a Will (you are ‘intestate’), your estate will be divided according to law, which might not benefit the people or organisations that you intended.
How do I make a Will?
Making a Will isn’t as complicated as you might imagine. A good solicitor will give you sound advice and will help you to think about the items that you should include in your Will. There are a few simple steps:
- Make a list of your main assets, including your home and contents, savings, investments, and other items of value (e.g. vehicles) and take this to a solicitor.
- The solicitor will work with you to make sure that your Will is drawn up in the way that you want.
- Decide who you would like to benefit from your estate, and how much you would like to leave to them.
- Choose your executors (the people who will ensure your wishes are carried out as described in your Will).

How do I make an in memoriam gift in my Will?
A gift to Church Urban Fund in memory of a family member or friend is a way of creating a lasting memorial. Your donation will help to give hope to someone living in poverty, and will transform lives. Read more about in memoriam gifts on our Other Ways to Give page.
