What's it all about?

What's it all about?

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in...” Matthew 25:34-40Man on stairs

Every day, in cities and rural areas, poverty affects the health and well being of millions of adults, young people and children. It destroys their confidence and takes way their self-respect. It causes family breakdowns, leads to homelessness, addictions, crime, debilitating illness and early death.

How you can join in the fight against poverty in England

Poverty is deeply rooted and personal. So are the solutions offered by hundreds of Church Urban Fund supported projects. They address the root causes of poverty, unlocking people's potential one by one.

Behind each of these projects you will find ordinary Christian workers and volunteers who are true community heroes. Some of them have given up good jobs to serve the poor, others have first hand experience of social deprivation and a strong desire to help.

Even as you read this page, somewhere in your diocese community heroes and volunteers are: reaching out to the homeless and the lonely; offering friendship and support to refugees and isolated elderly; helping young people to get their lives back on track; and reconciling broken families, plus much more. In short, offering people the chance to rediscover a sense of self worth and purpose.

Will you help us to support more Christian community heroes and transform more lives in return?

Your monthly gift will be used to bring real changes to some of the poorest communities in England, through Christian workers and volunteers whounderstand the local scene and who can offer practical help, food, friendship, a listening ear, advice and support to those who desperately need it.

Join forces with a Christian community hero in England now.

Together, we can tackle poverty.
